The Only Two Supplements I (Almost) Always Recommend

Updated: Oct 2

As a holistic nutrition coach, I rarely suggest supplements. Why? Because I firmly believe real food should be our primary source of nourishment, not a shelf full of pills.

But here's the truth...

Even when you're eating well, modern life depletes us in ways real food alone can’t always fix. Our soil is less nutritious than it used to be. Stress is at an all-time high. And our lifestyles, mostly indoors, fast-paced, and screen-saturated, don’t support optimal health.

That’s why there are two supplements I consistently recommend to clients. They're simple, accessible, and incredibly effective in supporting the areas where most people are running on empty:

Supplements for better health

1. Magnesium – Your Nervous System’s Best Friend

💊 Magnesium is essential for:

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Deep, restful sleep

  • Muscle recovery and energy production

  • Stress resilience and mood balance

Despite being critical for over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, magnesium deficiency is extremely common, especially in people experiencing chronic stress, fatigue, or burnout. Caffeine, alcohol, and even intense exercise can further deplete magnesium stores.

If you’re dealing with anxiety, poor sleep, tight muscles, or persistent fatigue, magnesium might be the missing piece.

2. Vitamin D – More Than Just the “Sunshine Vitamin”

☀️ Vitamin D plays a major role in:

  • Immune function

  • Hormonal balance

  • Mood support

  • Inflammation regulation

Low levels of vitamin D are often linked with low energy, poor immunity, seasonal mood issues, and even hormone imbalances.

If you live in a colder climate, spend most of your day indoors, or wear sunscreen religiously (which blocks vitamin D synthesis), chances are you’re not getting enough. Even with outdoor time, your body might not be converting sunlight efficiently.

🧪 Pro tip: The best way to know if you’re low? Get tested.

But Wait… Aren’t Supplements Just a Shortcut?

Nope. These aren’t “magic pills” or a replacement for a healthy lifestyle.

But when used wisely, alongside real food, quality sleep, and nervous system-friendly practices, they can create a noticeable shift in your energy, resilience, and overall wellbeing.

Think of them as support beams, not shortcuts.

Are You Depleted?

If you’re:

  • Constantly tired, no matter how much you sleep

  • Feeling burnt out or wired-but-tired

  • Struggling with mood swings, low immunity, or chronic tension

…it may be time to check in with your body’s foundational needs.
