Things I’d Never Do Now as a Holistic Nutrition Coach

If you knew me a few years ago, you’d see a very different version of how I approached food.

I’ve bought into diet culture. I’ve feared fat. I’ve starved myself, skipped meals, and trusted every label with a "health" claim on it.


Now? I know better. Here are 8 things I’d never do now and what I help my clients move away from too.

🚫 Buy Margarine

Margarine was marketed as a “heart-healthy” alternative to butter, but it’s often ultra-processed and full of inflammatory seed oils and additives. 

Now I use grass-fed butter, olive oil, or avocado oil instead.


🚫 Trust Food Labels

Labels are designed to sell, not educate. “Low-fat,” “high-protein,” “heart-healthy”... many mean very little without looking at ingredients. 

Now I read the ingredients list before the front of the box.


🚫 Buy Store-Bought Pasta Sauces

Most are full of added sugar, preservatives, and cheap oils. 

Now I make my own in 10 minutes


🚫 Eat Store-Bought Protein Bars Without Question

Many bars are candy in disguise, filled with synthetic sweeteners, fillers, and poor-quality protein. 

I now choose whole food snacks or make my own bars with real ingredients.


🚫 Starve Myself to “Lose Weight”

This only ever led to more cravings, bingeing, and hormone imbalances. 

Now I fuel consistently and trust that nourishment, not restriction, gets results.


🚫 Miss Breakfast

Skipping breakfast left me low-energy and more snacky later in the day.

 ✅ Now I prioritise a balanced breakfast with protein, fat, and fibre to stay steady.


🚫 Buy “Low-Fat” Products

Low-fat often means high sugar or high chemical content. Fat is essential for hormones, fullness, and nutrient absorption. 

Now I eat healthy fats like avocado, nuts, seeds, and quality oils.


🚫 Ignore My Body’s Signals

I used to override hunger, cravings, or fatigue in the name of discipline. 

Now I listen. My body speaks and healing begins when I listen to it.


The more I learned, the more I unlearned.

Eating well isn’t about restriction or perfection, it’s about reconnecting with real food, your body’s cues, and a deeper sense of balance.
